Crinoline Ladies for Guest towels

Clark's O.N.T.   1949

MATERIALS:
J.& P. Coats Tatting-Crochet, Size 70, 1 ball each of White and Shaded Light Yellows
Steel Crochet Hook No. 14.


SKIRT
FIRST Rnd OF MOTIFS
FIRST MOTIF Starting at center with White, Ch 6. Join with SLst to form ring,
First Rnd: Ch 7, (3 Tr in ring, Ch 3) 5 times;
2 Tr in ring. Join to 4th Ch of Ch-7. Tie off.

SECOND MOTIF Ch 6, join.
First Rnd: Ch 7, 3 Tr in ring, Ch 1, SLst in any free lp of First Motif, Ch 1, (3 Tr in ring, Ch 3) 4 times;
2 Tr in ring. Join and Tie off.

Make 2 more motifs, joining to previous motif as Second Motif was joined to First Motif, having 2 free lps on each side of joining.

SECOND Rnd OF MOTIFS
FIRST MOTIF Ch 6. Join.
1st Rnd: Ch 7, 3 Tr in ring, Ch 1, SLst to first free sp next to joining on First Motif of First Rnd,
Ch 1, 3 Tr in motif of Second Rnd, Ch 1, join to next free sp following same joining (of First Rnd).
Complete motif as before.

SECOND MOTIF - Ch 6, join.
First Rnd: Ch 7, 3 Tr in ring, Ch 1, SLst in side sp of First Motif, Ch 1, 3 Tr in motif of Second Rnd.
Then join next 2 sps as for First Motif and complete Rnd.
Make another motif, joining as Second Motif was joined to First Motif.

THIRD Rnd OF MOTIFS
Make 2 motifs as before, joining Third Rnd as Second was joined to First.
Do not break off after last motif but work as follows:
First Rnd: Sc in next sp, Ch 3, Dble-Tr in joining between motifs, Ch 3, Sc in next free sp on next motif, (Ch 3, Sc in next free sp) twice;
Ch 3, Dble-Tr in joining of motifs (between 2nd and 3rd rows).
Cont. in this way all around skirt, making Ch 4 (instead of Ch-3) along lower edge only. Join with SLst.
2nd Rnd:
* 3 Sc in sp, Sc in next at.
rep. from * along side edge to lower edge, then work along lower edge as follows:
* Make 5 Dc in sp, Sc in next st.
rep. from * across. Work remaining side to correspond. Join.

BODY .
First Rnd: Sc across next 8 Sc. Ch 1, turn.
2nd to 5th rows incl: Sc in each Sc across. Ch 1, turn.
6th Rnd: Sc in each Sc across, increasing 4 Sc evenly apart-to inc 1 Sc, make 2 Sc in 1 Sc. Ch 3, turn.
7th Rnd: Skip first Sc,
* holding back on hook the last lp of each Dc, make Dc in next 3 Sc,
yarn over and draw through all lps on hook (2 Dc decreased).
rep. from * across, Dc in last 2 Sc. Ch 6, turn.

SHOULDER CAPE
Picking up back lp only, skip first st,
* Dc in next st, Ch 3.
rep. from * across, end with- Dc in last st. Ch 1, turn.
Last Rnd: (Sc in next Dc, 4 Dc in next sp) 4 times;
Sc in last Dc. Tie off.

ARM
Ch 4. first Rnd: Sc in 2nd Ch from hook and in each Ch across. Ch 1, turn.
2nd to 6th rows incl: Sc in each Sc across. Ch 1, turn.
7th Rnd: Sc in next Sc, work off next 2 Sc as 1 Sc (1 Sc decreased). Ch 1, turn.
8th to 12th rows: Sc in each of next 2 sts. Ch 1, turn.
Break off at end of 12th Rnd. Sew in place.

HAT
Ch 9.
First Rnd: Dc in 4th Ch from hook and in each Ch across. Ch 3, turn.
2nd Rnd: Skip first Dc, Dc in each Dc across, end with- Dc in top of turning chain (7 Dc). Ch 3, turn.
3rd Rnd: Skip first Dc, Dc in each Dc, increasing 3 Dc evenly apart. Ch 3, turn.
4th Rnd: Skip first Dc, Dc in each Dc, increasing 4 Dc evenly apart. Ch 1, turn.

EDGING
(Sc in next Dc, Dc in next 3 Dc) 3 times;
Sc in last Dc. Tie off.
Sew Hat in place.
Make another Crinoline Lady with Yellow.
Sew to towel and draw contrasting colors through beading on each cape.
