KNIT A TENSION SWATCH FIRST

STITCH OR KNITTING GAUGE, AND TENSION: depends on the pattern of stitches in the fabric and the tension of the
individual knitter or crocheter ( or how tightly one knits or crochets, and thick or thin yarns produce different stitches ).
Gauge (Stocking Stitch over 4 in = 10 cm): 22,0 stitches by 29,0 rows.
Body knit by hand on 4.5 mm needles
Ribbing knit by hand on 3.5 mm needles

FINISHED DIMENSIONS: (cms)
Poncho Length: 29,0 Neck Width: 14,0 Border Depth: 2,0
Poncho Width: 58,0 Neck Band: 2,0 Fringe Length: 7,0

NOTE: Read ALL these instructions thoroughly BEFORE starting to knit.

PONCHO PANEL (make 4 pieces the same, knitting top to bottom):
1. Cast on 19 stitches on size 4.5 needles.
2. Start knit in Stocking Stitch. Inc 1 st at each end of every 2nd row 10 times, then every 3rd row 16 times to total
71 stitches. knit even to total 70 rows. If you will be knitting the border, place stitches on holder. If you will be
crocheting the border, cast off.

CONSTRUCT THE PONCHO:
1. Sew, graft or crochet the poncho panels together along the side seams.

NECK BAND:
1. Using size 3.5 needles knit a border 2,0 cms deep (approx. 6 rows) around the neckline of the poncho. This is
best knitted by picking up stitches around the neck and knitting a few rows. Ribbing will help pull in the neckline a
bit. If the neckline is very loose, consider knitting a folded band and inserting a draw string.

BORDER:
1. knit a border 2,0 cms deep around the bottom of the poncho. This should be crocheted or in a non-curling knit
stitch to provide stability to the bottom edge of the poncho.

FRINGE:
1. knit a 7,0 cms fringe around the bottom edge of the poncho. Various methods are given in the Help File / User Manual.

FINISHING:
1. Darn/weave/sew in all loose ends.
2. BLOCK. Really, it makes all the difference.

AMOUNT OF YARN REQUIRED TO MAKE GARMENT:
--- WARNING. THIS IS A ROUGH ESTIMATE ONLY. Measure a sample piece for a more accurate calculation.
Amount needed:
103,7 for poncho panels
3,6 for neckband
13,6 for border (plus 19,5 to 38,9 for fringe)
120,9 Grams TOTAL (excluding fringe)
