1 First you knit your knitting swatch, if you want to knit in a fantasy pattern, knit your swatch in this stitch,
2 then determine your gauge, now you can choose a knitting pattern with the right gauge, this way it will always fit, 3 no need for special yarns or needles size, you decide which yarn you use and which gauge you use, so easy. Continue until armhole measures 15,8 cms (30 rows), with 42 stitches remaining. 4. Shape neck. knit both sides at the same time. knit 12 stitches. Slip the next 18 stitches to a holder. With a second ball of yarn, knit remaining 12 stitches. Dec 1 st at neck edge every row once, until 11 stitches remain. 5. At the same time, when armhole measures 15,8 cms (row 30), start shoulder shaping. 6. Shoulder shaping. Cast off remaining stitches at armhole edge of next row. Inc 1 st at each end of every 10th row twice, then every 11th row twice to 35 stitches (42 rows total, excluding hem). 4. knit even until sleeve measures 27,0 cms (52 rows), excluding hem. 5. Shape cap. Cast off 2 stitches at beg of next two rows (31 stitches rem). Dec 1 st at each end of every 2nd row 4 times, then dec 1 st at each end of every 3rd row twice, then dec 1 st at each end of every 2nd row 4 times. Cast off remaining 11 stitches loosely. SHOULDER SEAMS: 1. Sew fronts to back along shoulder seams. BUTTON BAND / COLLAR: -- knitted in two pieces. Alternatively, you can knit button band and buttonhole band together in one piece on circular needles. 1. Start with left front for girls/women, right front for boys/men. Using size 5.5 needles pick up and knit 86 stitches (approximately 6 stitches for each 7 rows along cardigan front) between bottom of hem and center of back of neck. 2. knit in 1x1 ribbing for 5 rows. Cast off loosely. 3. Mark positions for 5 buttons, the first one 1,0 cms above the band bottom, the last one where the V-neck shaping begins. The rest should be evenly spaced between these two, approximately 6,0 cms apart. BUTTONHOLE BAND: 1. knit buttonhole band as for button band, knitting buttonholes at the marked positions. Check your knitting reference book for techniques. 2. Sew buttons at marked positions on the button band, being careful to align buttons with buttonholes. FINISHING: 1. Sew sleeve top to armhole, easing to fit. Sew side and sleeve seams. Sew any remaining seams. 2. Darn/weave/sew in all loose ends.
