Tips for my basic knitting patterns

1 First you knit your knitting swatch, if you want to knit in a fantasy pattern, knit your swatch in this stitch,
2 then determine your gauge, now you can choose a knitting pattern with the right gauge, this way it will always fit,
3 no need for special yarns or needles size, you decide which yarn you use and which gauge you use, so easy.

If you want to knit one of my stranded color knitting designs, check my Norwegian color chart pages,
or an intarsia knitting design, check my color chart pages, and select a nice design.

Then check the amount of stitches you need, to knit the design, for instance;
if your knit pattern gives 60 stitches for the front, ( and back ) your color pattern has to be between 40 - 50 stitches wide,
you must start with the color chart at least 5 stitches from each side of the front panel. Take care not to knit with too long floats.

2. Change to size 4.5 needles and Stocking Stitch. knit even until piece measures 19,2 cms (46 rows), excl. hem.
3. Armhole shaping. Cast off 3 stitches at beginning of next 2 rows. Dec 1 st at each end of every alternate row for 6
rows until 54 stitches remaining. Continue until armhole measures 15,8 cms (38 rows), with 54 stitches remaining.
4. Shape neck. knit both sides at the same time. knit 16 stitches. Slip the next 22 stitches to a holder.
Now attach another ball of yarn and continue across second half of stitches, and
knit remaining 16 stitches. Dec 1 st at neck edge every row twice, until 14 stitches remain.
5. At the same time, when armhole measures 15,8 cms (row 38), start shoulder shaping.
6. Shoulder shaping. Cast off 7 stitches at armhole edge twice.
FRONT: Cardigan right side knitted first.
1. Cast on 32 stitches on size 3.5 needles. knit in K1P1 ribbing for 5,0 cms. Inc 1 stitches evenly across the row to 33 stitches
total.
2. Change to size 4.5 needles and Stocking Stitch. knit even until piece measures 19,2 cms (46 rows), excl. hem.
3. Armhole. Dec for armhole at left end, as for back. Continue until armhole measures 10,8 cms (25 rows), with
27 stitches remaining.
4. Shape neck. Wrong side of knit facing. knit 20 stitches. Slip last 7 stitches to holder. Next row. Dec 1 st at neck edge
(right end) every row 6 times, until 14 stitches remain.
5. knit even until armhole measures 15,8 cms (38 rows).
6. Shoulder shaping. Cast off as for back.
7. Left cardigan front. knit as for right side, reversing shapings.

SLEEVES:
1. Cast on 33 stitches on size 3.5 needles. knit in K1P1 ribbing for 4,0 cms. Inc 1 stitches evenly across the row to 34 stitches
total.
2. Change to size 4.5 needles and Stocking Stitch.
3. Inc 1 st at each end of every 11th row 5 times to 44 stitches (55 rows total, excluding hem).
4. knit even until sleeve measures 27,0 cms (66 rows), excluding hem.
5. Shape cap. Cast off 3 stitches at beg of next two rows. Dec 1 st at each end of every 2nd row 3 times, then dec 1 st at
each end of every 3rd row 6 times, then dec 1 st at each end of every 2nd row 3 times. Cast off remaining 14 stitches
loosely.

SHOULDER SEAMS:
1. Sew fronts to back along shoulder seams.

ROUND (CREW) FRONT NECK SINGLE BAND COLLAR:
--- by hand on size 3.5 needles.
1. With right side of knit facing, pick up and knit 7 stitches from right front neck holder, 13 stitches from right front neck
edge, 2 stitches from right back neck edge, 22 stitches from back neck holder, 2 stitches from left back neck edge, 13 stitches from
left front neck edge, and 7 stitches from left front neck holder. Total 66 stitches.
2. knit 2,0 cms (6 rows) in K1P1 ribbing.
3. Cast off loosely.

BUTTON BAND:
1. Start with left front for girls/women, right front for boys/men. Using size 3.5 needles pick up and knit 79 stitches
(approximately 9 stitches for each 10 rows along cardigan front) between bottom of hem and top of collar band.
2. knit in 1x1 ribbing for 6 rows. Cast off loosely.
3. Mark positions for 6 buttons, the first one 1,0 cms above the band bottom, the last one 1,0 cms below the band top.
The rest should be evenly spaced between these two, approximately 7,0 cms apart.
BUTTONHOLE BAND:
1. knit buttonhole band as for button band, knitting buttonholes at the marked positions.
2. Sew buttons at marked positions on the button band, being careful to align buttons with buttonholes.

FINISHING: Sew sleeve top to armhole, sew any remaining seams. Darn/weave/sew in all loose ends.

rows until 58 stitches remaining. Continue until armhole measures 16,7 cms (40 rows), with 58 stitches remaining.
4. Shape neck. knit both sides at the same time. knit 18 stitches. Slip the next 22 stitches to a holder.
Now attach another ball of yarn and continue across second half of stitches, and
knit remaining 18 stitches. Dec 1 st at neck edge every row twice, until 16 stitches remain.
5. At the same time, when armhole measures 16,7 cms (row 40), start shoulder shaping.

3. Armhole. Dec for armhole at left end, as for back. Continue until armhole measures 10,8 cms (25 rows), with
29 stitches remaining.
4. Shape neck. Wrong side of knit facing. knit 22 stitches. Slip last 7 stitches to holder. Next row. Dec 1 st at neck edge
(right end) every row 6 times, until 16 stitches remain.
5. knit even until armhole measures 16,7 cms (40 rows).
6. Shoulder shaping. Cast off as for back.
7. Left cardigan front. knit as for right side, reversing shapings.

SLEEVES:
1. Cast on 33 stitches on size 3.5 needles. knit in K1P1 ribbing for 4,0 cms. Inc 3 stitches evenly across the row to 36 stitches
total.
2. Change to size 4.5 needles and Stocking Stitch.
3. Inc 1 st at each end of every 10th row 4 times, then every 11th row twice to 48 stitches (62 rows total, excluding hem).
4. knit even until sleeve measures 30,0 cms (72 rows), excluding hem.
5. Shape cap. Cast off 3 stitches at beg of next two rows. Dec 1 st at each end of every 2nd row 5 times, then dec 1 st at
each end of every 3rd row 4 times, then dec 1 st at each end of every 2nd row 5 times. Cast off remaining 14 stitches
loosely.

SHOULDER SEAMS:
1. Sew fronts to back along shoulder seams.

ROUND (CREW) FRONT NECK SINGLE BAND COLLAR:
--- by hand on size 3.5 needles.
1. With right side of knit facing, pick up and knit 7 stitches from right front neck holder, 15 stitches from right front neck
edge, 2 stitches from right back neck edge, 22 stitches from back neck holder, 2 stitches from left back neck edge, 15 stitches from
left front neck edge, and 7 stitches from left front neck holder. Total 70 stitches.
2. knit 2,0 cms (6 rows) in K1P1 ribbing.
3. Cast off loosely.

BUTTON BAND:
1. Start with left front for girls/women, right front for boys/men. Using size 3.5 needles pick up and knit 83 stitches
(approximately 9 stitches for each 10 rows along cardigan front) between bottom of hem and top of collar band.
2. knit in 1x1 ribbing for 6 rows. Cast off loosely.
3. Mark positions for 6 buttons, the first one 1,1 cms above the band bottom, the last one 1,1 cms below the band top.
The rest should be evenly spaced between these two, approximately 7,3 cms apart.
BUTTONHOLE BAND:
1. knit buttonhole band as for button band, knitting buttonholes at the marked positions.
2. Sew buttons at marked positions on the button band, being careful to align buttons with buttonholes.

FINISHING: Sew sleeve top to armhole, sew any remaining seams. Darn/weave/sew in all loose ends.

each end of every 3rd row 6 times, then dec 1 st at each end of every 2nd row 4 times. Cast off remaining 16 stitches
loosely.

SHOULDER SEAMS:

(approximately 9 stitches for each 10 rows along cardigan front) between bottom of hem and top of collar band.
2. knit in 1x1 ribbing for 9 rows. Cast off loosely.
3. Mark positions for 7 buttons, the first one 1,2 cms above the band bottom, the last one 1,2 cms below the band top.
The rest should be evenly spaced between these two, approximately 7,5 cms apart.
BUTTONHOLE BAND:
1. knit buttonhole band as for button band, knitting buttonholes at the marked positions.
2. Sew buttons at marked positions on the button band, being careful to align buttons with buttonholes.
