Tips for my basic knitting patterns

1 First you knit your knitting swatch, if you want to knit in a fantasy stitch pattern, knit your swatch in that stitch pattern,
2 then determine your gauge, now you can choose a knitting pattern with the right gauge, this way it will always fit,
3 no need for special yarns or needles size, you decide which yarn you use and which gauge you use, so easy.

Tips for regular inch increments
17.7 = 17.75 = 17 3/4 inches. 18,8 = 18.75 = 18 3/4 inches. 9.9 = 10 inches and so on.
Knowing this will make it easy to just round up or down as they are such small increments.

3. Armhole shaping. Cast off 7 stitches at beginning of next 2 rows. Continue until armhole measures 8,6 ins (62 rows).
4. Shape neck. knit both sides at the same time. knit 38 stitches. Slip the next 32 stitches to a holder. With a second ball
of yarn, knit remaining 38 stitches. Dec 1 st at neck edge every row 3 times, until 35 stitches remain.
5. knit even until armhole measures 9,4 ins (68 rows). Place 35 shoulder stitches on holder.

FRONT: Cardigan right side knitted first.
1. Cast on 60 stitches on size 3.5 needles. knit in K1P1 ribbing for 2,8 ins.
2. Change to size 4.5 needles and Stocking Stitch. knit even until piece measures 22,9 ins (166 rows), excl. hem.
3. Armhole. Dec for armhole at left end, as for back. AT THE SAME TIME,
4. Shape neck. Dec 1 st at neck edge (right end) of next row, then every 3rd row 3 times, then every 4th row 14
times, until 35 stitches remain.
5. knit even until armhole measures 9,4 ins (68 rows). Place 35 shoulder stitches on holder.
6. Left cardigan front. knit as for right side, reversing shapings.

SHOULDER SEAMS:

SLEEVES:
1. Sleeve is grafted onto the body of the sweater, and knitted down to the hem. With size 4.5 needles pick up and
knit 104 stitches between the armhole cast-offs.
2. knit even for 9 rows, then dec 1 st at each end of every 3rd row 8 times, then every 4th row 20 times to 48 stitches
(113 rows total).
3. knit even until sleeve measures 15,9 ins (116 rows). Dec 4 stitches evenly across the last row (44 stitches remaining).
4. Hem. Change to size 3.5 needles. knit 20 rows in K1P1 ribbing. Cast off remaining stitches loosely.

BUTTON BAND / COLLAR:
-- knitted in two pieces. ( Or knit button band and buttonhole band together in one piece on circular needles ).
1. Start with left front for girls/women, right front for boys/men. Using size 3.5 needles pick up and knit 260 stitches
(approximately 9 stitches for each 10 rows along cardigan front) between bottom of hem and center of back of neck.
2. knit in 1x1 ribbing for 16 rows. Cast off loosely. Fold band to inside and sew cast-off edge to back of picked
up stitches.
3. Mark positions for 8 buttons, the first one 0,5 ins above the band bottom, the last one where the V-neck shaping
begins. The rest should be evenly spaced between these two, approximately 3,5 ins apart.

BUTTONHOLE BAND:
1. knit buttonhole band as for button band, knitting buttonholes at the marked positions.
2. Sew buttons at marked positions on the button band, being careful to align buttons with buttonholes.

FINISHING:
1. Sew armhole castoff sections (on the front and back) to equal length along the armhole end of the sleeve side
edges, then sew remaining side and sleeve seams. Sew any remaining seams.
2. Darn/weave/sew in all loose ends.
