![]() Cable patterns tend to "pull in," giving more stitches per width than stockinette, garter or seed stitch. Cables are usually made on a background of reverse stockinette stitch. 1 First you knit your knitting swatch, if you want to knit in a
cable stitch pattern, knit your swatch with 1 or more cables,
2 then determine your gauge, now you can choose a knitting pattern with the right gauge, this way it will always fit, 3 no need for special yarns or needles size, you decide which yarn you use and which gauge you use, so easy.

Dec 1 st at neck edge (right end) of next row, then every 2nd row 7 times, then every 3rd row 18 times, until 67 stitches remain. 5. knit even until armhole measures 10,0 ins (70 rows). Inc 1 st at each end of every 2nd row 18 times, then every 3rd row 22 times to 152 stitches (102 rows total, excl. hem). 4. knit even until sleeve measures 14,7 ins (104 rows), excluding hem. 5. Cast off loosely. SHOULDER SEAMS: 1. Sew fronts to back along shoulder seams. BUTTON BAND / COLLAR: -- knitted in two pieces. Alternatively, you can knit button band and buttonhole band together in one piece on Circular needles. 1. Start with left front for girls/women, right front for boys/men. Using size 2.5 needles pick up and knit 270 stitches (approximately 4 stitches for each 3 rows along cardigan front) between bottom of hem and center of back of neck. 2. knit in 1x1 ribbing for 11 rows. Cast off loosely. 3. Mark positions for 5 buttons, the first one 0,5 ins above the band bottom, the last one where the V-neck shaping begins. The rest should be evenly spaced between these two, approximately 3,5 ins apart. BUTTONHOLE BAND: 1. knit buttonhole band as for button band, knitting buttonholes at the marked positions. 2. Sew buttons at marked positions on the button band, being careful to align buttons with buttonholes. FINISHING: Sew sleeve top to armhole, sew any remaining seams. Darn/weave/sew in all loose ends.
