Tips for hand dyed yarns:

Don't use chenille yarn, beautiful but it falls apart after a few times washing
Sock yarns are great and strong
Don't use yarns with a lot of synthetic material
Combine different yarns in the same color way, for interesting texture
Wash in special detergent and with care, I always use woollite
Hand dyes yarns will loose their color, if not handled and washed with great care
The hand dyed yarns are wonderful to knit with, and the colors are luscious.
