1 First you knit your knitting swatch, if you want to knit in a
cable stitch pattern, knit your swatch with 1 or more cables,
2 then determine your gauge, now you can choose a knitting pattern with the right gauge, this way it will always fit, 3 no need for special yarns or needles size, you decide which yarn you use and which gauge you use, so easy.
The length and quality of the fiber in a knitting yarn determines its texture, luster, strength and hand. |

BACK: 1. Cast on 102 stitches on size 5 needles. knit in K1P1 ribbing for 8,0 cms. Inc 3 stitches evenly across the row to 105 stitches total. 2. Change to size 6 needles and Stocking Stitch. knit even until piece measures 31,8 cms (70 rows), excl. hem. 3. Armhole shaping. Cast off 6 stitches at beginning of next 2 rows. Continue until armhole measures 25,5 cms (56 rows). 4. Shape neck. knit both sides at the same time. knit 28 stitches. With a second ball of yarn, cast off the next 37 stitches. knit remaining 28 stitches. Dec 1 st at neck edge every row 4 times, until 24 stitches remain. 5. knit even until armhole measures 28,2 cms (62 rows). Place 24 shoulder stitches on holder. FRONT: Cardigan right side knitted first. 1. Cast on 50 stitches on size 5 needles. knit in K1P1 ribbing for 8,0 cms. Inc 1 stitches evenly across the row to 51 stitches total. 2. Change to size 6 needles and Stocking Stitch. knit even until piece measures 31,8 cms (70 rows), excl. hem. 3. Armhole. Dec for armhole at left end, as for back. Continue until armhole measures 25,5 cms (56 rows). 4. Shape neck. Right side of knit facing. Cast off next 17 stitches. Next row. Dec 1 st at neck edge (right end) every row 4 times, until 24 stitches remain. 5. knit even until armhole measures 28,2 cms (62 rows). Place 24 shoulder stitches on holder. 6. Left cardigan front. knit as for right side, reversing shapings. SHOULDER SEAMS: 1. Graft shoulder seams on 24 stitches. SLEEVES: 1. Sleeve is grafted onto the body of the sweater, and knitted down to the hem. With size 6 needles pick up and knit 90 stitches between the armhole cast-offs. 2. knit even for 8 rows, then dec 1 st at each end of every 4th row 11 times, then every 5th row 10 times to 48 stitches (102 rows total). 3. knit even until sleeve measures 48,0 cms (106 rows). Dec 4 stitches evenly across the last row (44 stitches remaining). 4. Hem. Change to size 5 needles. knit 16 rows in K1P1 ribbing. Cast off remaining stitches loosely. SHAPED HOOD: 1. Use an open (looped) cast on with 99 stitches on size 5 needles. 2. Folded front band. knit even for 16 rows, with lace holes for drawstring near the ends of row 4 (or row 12 for lace holes on outside of band). To complete the band, graft the cast-on stitches to the last row knitted. 3. Change to size 6 needles with Stocking Stitchand knit 6 rows. Dec 1 st at each end of next row, then every following 4th row 6 times, until 85 stitches remain. knit even until piece measures 17,8 cms ( 38 rows), excluding front band. 4. Cast off 23 stitches at beg of next 2 rows. knit even on remaining 39 stitches for 14,8 cms (34 rows). Cast off loosely. BUTTON BAND: 1. Start with left front for girls/women, right front for boys/men. Using size 5 needles pick up and knit 125 stitches (approximately 6 stitches for each 7 rows along cardigan front) between bottom of hem and bottom of hood. 2. knit in 1x1 ribbing for 8 rows. Cast off loosely. 3. Mark positions for 8 buttons, the first one 1,4 cms above the band bottom, the last one 1,4 cms below the band top. The rest should be evenly spaced between these two, approximately 8,9 cms apart. BUTTONHOLE BAND: 1. knit buttonhole band as for button band, knitting buttonholes at the marked positions. 2. Sew buttons at marked positions on the button band, being careful to align buttons with buttonholes. FINISHING: 1. Sew armhole castoff sections (on the front and back) to equal length along the armhole end of the sleeve side edges, then sew remaining side and sleeve seams. Sew back seam(s) of hood. Placing hood bands at center front, sew bottom of hood (including bands) to neckline. Thread a drawstring if required. 2. Darn/weave/sew in all loose ends.
