Tips for my basic knitting patterns

1 First you knit your knitting swatch, if you want to knit in a cable stitch pattern, knit your swatch with 1 or more cables,
2 then determine your gauge, now you can choose a knitting pattern with the right gauge, this way it will always fit,
3 no need for special yarns or needles size, you decide which yarn you use and which gauge you use, so easy.

The length and quality of the fiber in a knitting yarn determines its texture, luster, strength and hand.
Knitting yarn made from long fibers will pill less, be smoother, stronger, more lustrous and more elastic.
Your sweater or cardigan will pill less if you make the stitches tighter, so do not knit too loosely.
Knitting Yarns containing a mixture of fiber lengths are softer, fuzzier and less strong.
Tightly twisted knitting yarns display the texture of a knitted pattern to its best advantage.
Choose a knitting yarn with cotton, 50 % cotton and 50 % acryl or 50 % wool, would be a perfect choice.

2. Change to size 5 needles and Stocking Stitch. knit even until piece measures 12,6 ins (82 rows), excluding hem.
3. Armhole shaping. Cast off 6 stitches at beginning of next 2 rows.
4. Raglan shaping. Dec 1 st at armhole end(s) of every 3rd row twice, then dec 1 st at armhole end(s) of every 2nd
row 28 times. Continue until armhole measures 9,2 ins (60 rows), with 42 stitches remaining. Then shape neckline as
follows, continuing raglan shaping AT THE SAME TIME.
5. Shape neck. knit both sides at the same time. knit 7 stitches.
Now attach another ball of yarn, cast off the next 28 stitches.
knit remaining 7 stitches. Continue armhole shaping. Dec 1 st at neck edge every row 3 times, until 2 stitches remain.
6. knit even at neck edge, continuing armhole decreases to last 2 stitches. Cast off.

FRONT: Cardigan right side knitted first.
1. Cast on 52 stitches on size 4 needles. knit in K1P1 ribbing for 2,8 ins.
Increase 4 stitches evenly across the row to 56 stitches total.
2. Change to size 5 needles and Stocking Stitch. knit even until piece measures 12,6 ins (82 rows), excluding hem.
3. Armhole. Dec for armhole at left end, as for back. Continue until armhole measures 6,2 ins (40 rows), with 32 stitches
remaining. Then shape neckline as follows, continuing raglan shaping AT THE SAME TIME.
4. Shape neck. Right side of knit facing. Cast off next 9 stitches. Next row. Continue armhole shaping. Dec 1 st at
neck edge (right end) every row 9 times, until 9 stitches remain.
5. knit even at neck edge, continuing armhole decreases to last 2 stitches. Cast off.
6. Left cardigan front. knit as for right side, reversing shapings.

SLEEVES:
1. Cast on 46 stitches on size 4 needles. knit in K1P1 ribbing for 2,3 ins.
Increase 5 stitches evenly across the row to 51 stitches total.
2. Change to size 5 needles and Stocking Stitch.
3. Inc 1 st at each end of every 7th row 3 times, then every 8th row 10 times to 77 stitches (101 rows total, excluding hem).
4. knit even until sleeve measures 16,5 ins (108 rows), excluding hem.
5. Shape cap. Cast off 6 stitches at beg of next two rows (65 stitches rem).
Decrease 1 st at each end of every 3rd row twice, then
dec 1 st at each end of every 2nd row 28 times. Cast off remaining 5 stitches loosely.

SHOULDER SEAMS:
1. Sew sleeves to fronts and back, along raglan armhole seams.

SHAPED HOOD:
1. Use an open (looped) cast on with 153 stitches on size 4 needles.
2. Folded front band. knit even for 14 rows, with lace holes for drawstring near the ends of row 3 (or row 10 for lace
holes on outside of band). To complete the band, graft the cast-on stitches to the last row knitted.
3. Change to size 5 needles with Stocking Stitchand knit 4 rows. Dec 1 st at each end of next row, then every
following 2nd row 20 times, until 111 stitches remain. knit even until piece measures 7,6 ins ( 50 rows), excluding
front band.
4. Cast off 41 stitches at beg of next 2 rows. knit even on remaining 29 stitches for 8,2 ins (54 rows). Cast off loosely.

FINISHING:
1. Sew sleeve top to armhole, easing to fit. Sew side and sleeve seams. Sew back seam(s) of hood. Placing hood
bands at center front, sew bottom of hood (including bands) to neckline. Thread a drawstring if required.
2. Finish open edges of cardigan fronts; with zipper.
3. Darn/weave/sew in all loose ends.

Ribbing knit by hand on 4 mm needles

Note: There may be sections where there are two shapings to knit at the same time (necklines or waist shaping).

BACK:
1. Cast on 126 stitches on size 4 needles. knit in K1P1 ribbing for 3,0 ins.
Increase 4 stitches evenly across the row to 130 stitches total.
2. Change to size 5 needles and Stocking Stitch. knit even until piece measures 12,9 ins (84 rows), excluding hem.
3. Armhole shaping. Cast off 7 stitches at beginning of next 2 rows.
4. Raglan shaping. Dec 1 st at armhole end(s) of every 2nd row 33 times, then dec 1 st at armhole end(s) of every row
4 times. Continue until armhole measures 10,2 ins (66 rows), with 52 stitches remaining. Then shape neckline as
follows, continuing raglan shaping AT THE SAME TIME.
5. Shape neck. knit both sides at the same time. knit 10 stitches.
Now attach another ball of yarn, cast off the next 32 stitches.
knit remaining 10 stitches. Continue armhole shaping. Dec 1 st at neck edge every row 3 times, until 3 stitches remain.
6. knit even at neck edge, continuing armhole decreases to last 2 stitches. Cast off.

FRONT: Cardigan right side knitted first.
1. Cast on 64 stitches on size 4 needles. knit in K1P1 ribbing for 3,0 ins.
Increase 2 stitches evenly across the row to 66 stitches total.
2. Change to size 5 needles and Stocking Stitch. knit even until piece measures 12,9 ins (84 rows), excluding hem.
3. Armhole. Dec for armhole at left end, as for back. Continue until armhole measures 7,1 ins (46 rows), with 37 stitches
remaining. Then shape neckline as follows, continuing raglan shaping AT THE SAME TIME.
4. Shape neck. Right side of knit facing. Cast off next 10 stitches. Next row. Continue armhole shaping. Dec 1 st at
neck edge (right end) every row 10 times, until 11 stitches remain.
5. knit even at neck edge, continuing armhole decreases to last 2 stitches. Cast off.
6. Left cardigan front. knit as for right side, reversing shapings.

SLEEVES:
1. Cast on 53 stitches on size 4 needles. knit in K1P1 ribbing for 2,5 ins.
Increase 6 stitches evenly across the row to 59 stitches total.
2. Change to size 5 needles and Stocking Stitch.
3. Inc 1 st at each end of every 7th row 5 times, then every 8th row 9 times to 87 stitches (107 rows total, excluding hem).
4. knit even until sleeve measures 17,3 ins (114 rows), excluding hem.
5. Shape cap. Cast off 7 stitches at beg of next two rows (73 stitches rem).
Decrease 1 st at each end of every 3rd row 4 times, then
dec 1 st at each end of every 2nd row 29 times. Cast off remaining 7 stitches loosely.

SHOULDER SEAMS:
1. Sew sleeves to fronts and back, along raglan armhole seams.

SHAPED HOOD:
1. Use an open (looped) cast on with 163 stitches on size 4 needles.
2. Folded front band. knit even for 18 rows, with lace holes for drawstring near the ends of row 4 (or row 13 for lace
holes on outside of band). To complete the band, graft the cast-on stitches to the last row knitted.
3. Change to size 5 needles with Stocking Stitchand knit 13 rows. Dec 1 st at each end of next row, then every
following row 23 times, until 115 stitches remain. knit even until piece measures 7,8 ins ( 50 rows), excluding front
band.
4. Cast off 42 stitches at beg of next 2 rows. knit even on remaining 31 stitches for 8,5 ins (56 rows). Cast off loosely.

FINISHING:
1. Sew sleeve top to armhole, easing to fit. Sew side and sleeve seams. Sew back seam(s) of hood. Placing hood
bands at center front, sew bottom of hood (including bands) to neckline. Thread a drawstring if required.
2. Finish open edges of cardigan fronts; with zipper.
3. Darn/weave/sew in all loose ends.

REQUIRED AMOUNT OF YARN: ( APPROX. ):
19,7 for body and sleeves
2,7 for ribbing and/or hems
4,0 for collar/hood (includes cardigan front bands)
26,4 Ounces TOTAL
