There are 3 types in each pattern.
Cardigans with raglan shoulders, drop shoulders and saddle shoulders.

Tips for my basic knitting patterns

1 First you knit your knitting swatch, if you want to knit in a cable stitch pattern, knit your swatch with 1 or more cables,
2 then determine your gauge, now you can choose a knitting pattern with the right gauge, this way it will always fit,
3 no need for special yarns or needles size, you decide which yarn you use and which gauge you use, so easy.

The length and quality of the fiber in a knitting yarn determines its texture, luster, strength and hand.
Knitting yarn made from long fibers will pill less, be smoother, stronger, more lustrous and more elastic.
Your sweater or cardigan will pill less if you make the stitches tighter, so do not knit too loosely.
Knitting Yarns containing a mixture of fiber lengths are softer, fuzzier and less strong.
Tightly twisted knitting yarns display the texture of a knitted pattern to its best advantage.
Choose a knitting yarn with cotton, 50 % cotton and 50 % acryl or 50 % wool, would be a perfect choice.

STITCH OR KNITTING GAUGE, AND TENSION: depends on the pattern of stitches in the fabric and the tension of the
individual knitter or crocheter ( or how tightly one knits or crochets, and thick or thin yarns produce different stitches ).

Gauge (Stocking Stitch over 4 in = 10 cm): 16,0 stitches by 22,0 rows.
Body knit by hand on 6 mm needles
Ribbing knit by hand on 5 mm needles

Note: There may be sections where there are two shapings to knit at the same time (necklines or waist shaping).

BACK:
1. Cast on 106 stitches on size 5 needles. knit in K1P1 ribbing for 8,0 cms. Inc 5 stitches evenly across the row to 111 stitches total.
2. Change to size 6 needles and Stocking Stitch. knit even until piece measures 33,6 cms (74 rows), excl. hem.
3. Armhole shaping. Cast off 6 stitches at beginning of next 2 rows.
4. Raglan shaping. Dec 1 st at armhole end(s) of every 3rd row twice, then dec 1 st at armhole end(s) of every 2nd
row 28 times. Continue until armhole measures 26,4 cms (58 rows), with 45 stitches remaining. Then shape neckline
as follows, continuing raglan shaping AT THE SAME TIME.
5. Shape neck. knit both sides at the same time. knit 8 stitches. Slip the next 29 stitches to a holder. With a second ball
of yarn, knit remaining 8 stitches. Continue armhole shaping. Dec 1 st at neck edge every row 3 times, until 3 stitches
remain.
6. knit even at neck edge, continuing armhole decreases to last 2 stitches. Cast off.

FRONT: Cardigan right side knitted first.
1. Cast on 52 stitches on size 5 needles. knit in K1P1 ribbing for 8,0 cms. Inc 2 stitches evenly across the row to 54 stitches total.
2. Change to size 6 needles and Stocking Stitch. knit even until piece measures 33,6 cms (74 rows), excl. hem.
3. Armhole. Dec for armhole at left end, as for back. Continue until armhole measures 0,9 cms (2 rows), with 48
sts remaining. Continue armhole shaping.
4. Shape neck. Dec 1 st at neck edge (right end) of next row, then every 3rd row once, then every 4th row 14 times.
5. knit even at neck edge, continuing armhole decreases to last 2 stitches. Cast off.
6. Left cardigan front. knit as for right side, reversing shapings.

SLEEVES:
1. Cast on 45 stitches on size 5 needles. knit in K1P1 ribbing for 6,0 cms. Inc 5 stitches evenly across the row to 50 stitches total.
2. Change to size 6 needles and Stocking Stitch.
3. Inc 1 st at each end of every 7th row 11 times, then every 8th row twice to 76 stitches (93 rows total, excluding hem).
4. knit even until sleeve measures 45,0 cms (100 rows), excluding hem.
5. Shape cap. Cast off 6 stitches at beg of next two rows (64 stitches rem).
Decrease 1 st at each end of every 3rd row 4 times, then
dec 1 st at each end of every 2nd row 25 times. Cast off remaining 6 stitches loosely.

SHOULDER SEAMS:
1. Sew sleeves to fronts and back, along raglan armhole seams.

BUTTON BAND / COLLAR:
-- knitted in two pieces. ( Or knit button band and buttonhole band together in one piece on circular needles ).
1. Start with left front for girls/women, right front for boys/men. Using size 5 needles pick up and knit 162 stitches
(approximately 6 stitches for each 7 rows along cardigan front) between bottom of hem and center of back of neck.
2. knit in 1x1 ribbing for 8 rows. Cast off loosely.
3. Mark positions for 5 buttons, the first one 1,4 cms above the band bottom, the last one where the V-neck shaping
begins. The rest should be evenly spaced between these two, approximately 9,9 cms apart.

BUTTONHOLE BAND:
1. knit buttonhole band as for button band, knitting buttonholes at the marked positions.
2. Sew buttons at marked positions on the button band, being careful to align buttons with buttonholes.

FINISHING: 1. Sew all seams, darn/weave/sew in all loose ends.

AMOUNT OF YARN REQUIRED TO MAKE GARMENT: Amount needed:
616,5 for body and sleeves
84,7 for ribbing and/or hems
38,7 for collar/hood (includes cardigan front bands)

3. Mark this row at both ends for armhole. Continue until armhole measures 26,4 cms (58 rows).
4. Shape neck. knit both sides at the same time. knit 41 stitches. Slip the next 29 stitches to a holder. With a second ball
of yarn, knit remaining 41 stitches. Dec 1 st at neck edge every row 3 times, until 38 stitches remain.
5. knit even until armhole measures 29,1 cms (64 rows). Cast off 38 shoulder stitches loosely.

FRONT: Cardigan right side knitted first.
1. Cast on 52 stitches on size 5 needles. knit in K1P1 ribbing for 8,0 cms. Inc 2 stitches evenly across the row to 54 stitches total.
2. Change to size 6 needles and Stocking Stitch. knit even until piece measures 33,6 cms (74 rows), excl. hem.
3. Armhole. Mark this row at left end for armhole. Continue until armhole measures 0,9 cms (2 rows).
4. Shape neck. Dec 1 st at neck edge (right end) of next row, then every 3rd row once, then every 4th row 14 times,
until 38 stitches remain.
5. knit even until armhole measures 29,1 cms (64 rows). Cast off 38 shoulder stitches loosely.
6. Left cardigan front. knit as for right side, reversing shapings.

2. Change to size 6 needles and Stocking Stitch.
3. Inc 1 st at each end of every 4th row 9 times, then every 5th row 12 times to 92 stitches (96 rows total, excluding hem).
4. knit even until sleeve measures 45,0 cms (100 rows), excluding hem.
5. Cast off loosely.

SHOULDER SEAMS:
1. Sew fronts to back along shoulder seams.

BUTTON BAND / COLLAR:
-- knitted in two pieces. ( Or knit button band and buttonhole band together in one piece on circular needles ).

5. Shoulder shaping. Cast off 8 stitches at beginning of next 4 rows. Cast off 9 stitches at beginning of following 2 rows.
6. knit 8 rows even on remaining 35 center stitches. Total 138 rows (excluding hem) with 35 stitches remaining for back of
neck. Place stitches on holder.

FRONT: Cardigan right side knitted first.
1. Cast on 52 stitches on size 5 needles. knit in K1P1 ribbing for 8,0 cms. Inc 2 stitches evenly across the row to 54 stitches total.
2. Change to size 6 needles and Stocking Stitch. knit even until piece measures 32,7 cms (72 rows), excl. hem.
3. Armhole. Dec for armhole at left end, as for back. Continue until armhole measures 0,9 cms (2 rows), with 47
sts remaining. Continue armhole shaping until 16 rows knitted from beginning of armhole. AT THE SAME
TIME,
4. Shape neck. Dec 1 st at neck edge (right end) of next row, then every 3rd row 13 times, then every 4th row twice,
until 25 stitches remain.
5. knit even until armhole measures 23,6 cms (52 rows).
6. Shoulder shaping. Cast off as for back.
7. Left cardigan front. knit as for right side, reversing shapings.

SLEEVES:
1. Cast on 45 stitches on size 5 needles. knit in K1P1 ribbing for 6,0 cms. Inc 5 stitches evenly across the row to 50 stitches total.
2. Change to size 6 needles and Stocking Stitch.
3. Inc 1 st at each end of every 7th row 11 times, then every 8th row twice to 76 stitches (93 rows total, excluding hem).

3. Mark positions for 5 buttons, the first one 1,4 cms above the band bottom, the last one where the V-neck shaping
begins. The rest should be evenly spaced between these two, approximately 9,7 cms apart.

1. knit buttonhole band as for button band, knitting buttonholes at the marked positions.
