A good cardigan is often a suitable way to add warmth on chilly fall days.

Tips for my basic knitting patterns

1 First you knit your knitting swatch, if you want to knit in a cable stitch pattern, knit your swatch with 1 or more cables,
2 then determine your gauge, now you can choose a knitting pattern with the right gauge, this way it will always fit,
3 no need for special yarns or needles size, you decide which yarn you use and which gauge you use, so easy.

The length and quality of the fiber in a knitting yarn determines its texture, luster, strength and hand.
Knitting yarn made from long fibers will pill less, be smoother, stronger, more lustrous and more elastic.
Your sweater or cardigan will pill less if you make the stitches tighter, so do not knit too loosely.
Knitting Yarns containing a mixture of fiber lengths are softer, fuzzier and less strong.
Tightly twisted knitting yarns display the texture of a knitted pattern to its best advantage.
Choose a knitting yarn with cotton, 50 % cotton and 50 % acryl or 50 % wool, would be a perfect choice.

3. Mark this row at both ends for armhole. Continue until armhole measures 23,1 cms (60 rows),
4. Shape neck. knit both sides at the same time. knit 43 stitches. Slip the next 29 stitches to a holder.
Now attach another ball of yarn and continue across second half of stitches, and
knit remaining 43 stitches. Dec 1 st at neck edge every row 3 times, until 40 stitches remain.
5. knit even until armhole measures 25,4 cms (66 rows). Cast off 40 shoulder stitches loosely.

FRONT: Cardigan right side knitted first.
Warning. Adjustment of 4 stitches applied to front neckline for texture pattern. It may be better to knit with partial
repeats.
1. Cast on 49 stitches on size 4 needles. knit in K1P1 ribbing for 7,0 cms. Inc 10 stitches evenly across the row to 59 stitches total.
2. Change to size 5 needles and Stitch Pattern. knit even until piece measures 30,8 cms (80 rows), excluding hem.
3. Armhole. Mark this row at left end for armhole. AT THE SAME TIME,
4. Shape neck. Dec 1 st at neck edge (right end) of next row, then every 3rd row 9 times, then every 4th row 9 times,
until 40 stitches remain.
5. knit even until armhole measures 25,4 cms (66 rows). Cast off 40 shoulder stitches loosely.
6. Left cardigan front. knit as for right side, reversing shapings.

SLEEVES:
1. Cast on 48 stitches on size 4 needles. knit in K1P1 ribbing for 6,0 cms. Inc 3 stitches evenly across the row to 51 stitches total.
2. Change to size 5 needles and Stitch Pattern.
3. Inc 1 st at each end of every 4th row 19 times, then every 5th row 6 times to 101 stitches (106 rows total, excl. hem).
4. knit even until sleeve measures 42,0 cms (110 rows), excluding hem.
5. Cast off loosely.

SHOULDER SEAMS:
1. Sew fronts to back along shoulder seams.

BUTTON BAND / COLLAR:
-- knitted in two pieces. Alternatively, you can knit button band and buttonhole band together in one piece on Circular needles.
1. Start with left front for girls/women, right front for boys/men. Using size 4 needles pick up and knit 178 stitches
(approximately 9 stitches for each 10 rows along cardigan front) between bottom of hem and center of back of neck.
2. knit in 1x1 ribbing for 10 rows. Cast off loosely.
3. Mark positions for 5 buttons, the first one 1,3 cms above the band bottom, the last one where the V-neck shaping
begins. The rest should be evenly spaced between these two, approximately 8,8 cms apart.

BUTTONHOLE BAND:
1. knit buttonhole band as for button band, knitting buttonholes at the marked positions.
2. Sew buttons at marked positions on the button band, being careful to align buttons with buttonholes.

FINISHING: Sew sleeve top to armhole, sew any remaining seams. Darn/weave/sew in all loose ends.

BACK:
1. Cast on 125 stitches on size 4 needles. knit in K1P1 ribbing for 8,0 cms. Inc 6 stitches evenly across the row to 131 stitches total.
2. Change to size 5 needles and Stitch Pattern. knit even until piece measures 32,3 cms (84 rows), excluding hem.
3. Mark this row at both ends for armhole. Continue until armhole measures 25,4 cms (66 rows),
4. Shape neck. knit both sides at the same time. knit 48 stitches. Slip the next 35 stitches to a holder.
Now attach another ball of yarn and continue across second half of stitches, and
knit remaining 48 stitches. Dec 1 st at neck edge every row 3 times, until 45 stitches remain.
5. knit even until armhole measures 27,7 cms (72 rows). Cast off 45 shoulder stitches loosely.

FRONT: Cardigan right side knitted first.
Warning. Adjustment of 4 stitches applied to front neckline for texture pattern. It may be better to knit with partial
repeats.
1. Cast on 60 stitches on size 4 needles. knit in K1P1 ribbing for 8,0 cms. Inc 7 stitches evenly across the row to 67 stitches total.
2. Change to size 5 needles and Stitch Pattern. knit even until piece measures 31,5 cms (82 rows), excluding hem.
3. Shape neck. Dec 1 st at neck edge (right end) of next row, then every 3rd row 13 times, then every 4th row 8 times.
4. Armhole. (knit measures 32,3 cms from hem). Mark this row at left end for armhole. Complete neckline shaping
until 45 stitches remain.
5. knit even until armhole measures 27,7 cms (72 rows). Cast off 45 shoulder stitches loosely.
6. Left cardigan front. knit as for right side, reversing shapings.

SLEEVES:
1. Cast on 54 stitches on size 4 needles. knit in K1P1 ribbing for 6,0 cms. Inc 5 stitches evenly across the row to 59 stitches total.
2. Change to size 5 needles and Stitch Pattern.
3. Inc 1 st at each end of every 4th row 18 times, then every 5th row 8 times to 111 stitches (112 rows total, excl. hem).
4. knit even until sleeve measures 44,0 cms (116 rows), excluding hem.
5. Cast off loosely.

SHOULDER SEAMS:
1. Sew fronts to back along shoulder seams.

BUTTON BAND / COLLAR:
-- knitted in two pieces. Alternatively, you can knit button band and buttonhole band together in one piece on Circular needles.
1. Start with left front for girls/women, right front for boys/men. Using size 4 needles pick up and knit 194 stitches
(approximately 9 stitches for each 10 rows along cardigan front) between bottom of hem and center of back of neck.
2. knit in 1x1 ribbing for 10 rows. Cast off loosely.
3. Mark positions for 5 buttons, the first one 1,4 cms above the band bottom, the last one where the V-neck shaping
begins. The rest should be evenly spaced between these two, approximately 9,2 cms apart.

BUTTONHOLE BAND:
1. knit buttonhole band as for button band, knitting buttonholes at the marked positions.
2. Sew buttons at marked positions on the button band, being careful to align buttons with buttonholes.

FINISHING: Sew sleeve top to armhole, sew any remaining seams. Darn/weave/sew in all loose ends.

REQUIRED AMOUNT OF YARN: ( APPROX. ):
565,8 for body and sleeves
83,3 for ribbing and/or hems
37,3 for collar/hood (includes cardigan front bands)
686,4 Grams TOTAL

NOTES:
Knit stitch pattern over 33 center stitches, and at the sides, left and right of the vest, with cable over 8 stitches.

FOR VEST; DO NOT KNIT THE SLEEVES, pick up stitches along the armholes and knit a small ribbing instead.
Pick up 3-4 stitches, for every knitted row.
