basic women's patterns, knitting patterns for women's cardigans
The cardigan sweater is enjoying a popularity among young
women who are adapting its simple, classic look in new contexts.
The more daring young woman
wears her cardigan as a dress, buttoned to the neck in crew-neck styles, or over
a thin turtleneck or T-shirt.
Oversized vintage and new
V-neck cardigans, particularly men's, are worn like a jacket or duster to add a
modest touch to sheer tulle skirts.
Depending what you wear it over, say, chartreuse velvet pants or jodhpurs, the
same sweater can look classic and retro, relaxed and elegant or funky.

Remember; the amount of stitches are more important than rows,
because the
required length of the garment, are in centimeters too. |
heck when you are knitting the length from wrist to armhole and from
hem to armhole too.
When it is too short, keep knitting until desired length.
When it is too long;
You have to decrease and increase, more rapidly, then usual.
And stop knitting at the desired length. |

if you want to use inches instead of cms or use this converter. |
ince knitted fabric is generally
elastic, it conforms readily to the wearer's body without shaping.
However, some shaping may be necessary when the knitted fabrics are
unusually stiff (e.g., thick cable designs or heavily overstitched
designs) or in regions of high curvature (sock heels!).
Ironically, shaping is much easier and less obvious with knitted fabrics
than with woven cloth.
Instead of cutting out wedges and sewing the edges together, knitters
can add or subtract stitches; work short rows; or, most subtly of all,
change the needle size to produce smaller/larger stitches in the desired
"wedge" region.Do you want to knit with a large needle size ?
This will speed up your knitting time, but you have to knit with bulky
or worsted yarns.
I find these sweaters always make me look like the Michelin Man, not
very flattering.
Tip; use two strands of thin yarn
held together (=
double thread).
For instance; use yarn for needle size 4 mm, and knit on needle size 7
mm, with 2 threads.
This will give your garment light weight and a very delicate look.
One of my
latest project is
knitted this way. |

he choice of yarn affects the
comfort of the cardigan, since it affects its warmth, weight and ability
to "breathe" (air exchange). Some yarns will also produce itching or
even allergic reactions in some wearers.
The yarn affects the bulk and drape of the knitted fabric, as well as
the visibility of stitches. Complicated stitch patterns are best seen
with a smooth, highly spun yarn and may be invisible with "furry" yarns
such as mohair or novelty yarns. |

Inwards
There are no perfumed islands free of pain,
there are no scented fields of paradise.
Where we are is where we shall remain,
whether we stay or sail towards the light.
The world though opens in a thousand flowers,
our minds (no souls exist) are free to be.
Where we are is the boundary of space,
the inner form is our humanity.

The designer has many choices for how
to shape the sleeve length and cap, waistline/hemline and
neckline/collar; these various choices and their visual effects are
described in their individual entries.
The overall shape (silhouette) of the garment is defined by the ease
introduced at various points.
In addition, a sweater may have ornamental lines/curves, even images.
In
general, these lines are chosen to achieve a balanced look; for example,
well-chosen style lines can help compensate for body lines considered
too long or too angular or too short or too rounded.

Knitting Supplies for Starting and Finishing Projects
* Scissors / thread cutter: While scissors work fine for cutting yarn, a thread cutter is easier to carry in a bag and can be taken on airplanes. * Gauge measurer: This is a small rectangle with a ruler on two sides that is used for measuring gauge. Many also come with a needle sizer, holes that the knitter can stick unmarked needles through to check size. * Measuring tape / ruler:
These can be used for measuring the length or width of a project, and can also be used for measuring gauge.
Knitting Supplies for More Advanced Knitting Projects
* Ring markers / split ring markers: Small rings that are put on the knitting needle to separate parts of the knitting pattern or pattern repeats. Split ring markers have the added benefit that they can be added and removed without moving the stitches, and can also be attached directly to a stitch to mark it or to designate the right or wrong side of the knitting project. * Row counter:
These small gadgets count rows and can keep track of how many rows have been knit or which row the knitter is on in a pattern. Some come attached to a ring marker, making it easy to keep track of rows when knitting in the round. * Stitch holders: These look like big safety pins and are used to hold stitches that are not being worked, for example stitches that will be used later to knit a sleeve or
neckline. |

IMPORTANCE OF COLOR WITH RESPECT TO
FIGURE PROBLEMS
Is the color suitable for your figure proportions ? Should you wear one
solid color or should some subtle trickery be used to hide some figure
discrepancies?
Black or grayed colors tend to make the figure appear
smaller and
slimmer than do bright and light colors.
A bright panel from neck to hem makes the wearer look taller.
One who wishes to appear shorter may use a two-tone effect, broken
across the figure.
To minimize the waist, use a band of cool color or change the width of
the belt.
A large bust can be minimized by the use of diagonal lines or by wearing
dark or cool colors on top portion of garment, and bright colors at the
bottom. |

You can use any
knitting stitch and knit with any knitting yarn you like, if it has a similar
gauge.
Needle size is not so important, every knitter knits differently. When you are looking at a pattern, it is the gauge or tension swatch that really matters. This is the base for all my basic knitting patterns.

SELECTING COLORS TO SUIT
INDIVIDUAL NEEDS
Light and True Blonds
This is applied to those whose complexion ranges from very fair to golden tones, hair light, to golden blond, and eyes may be light blue to brown. This person may wear colors that are clear and fresh looking,
blues, purples, greens, and any pastels. Black too may be very stunning. However, if the coloring is very delicate be sure it isn't overpowered with vivid colors. Emphasize this delicacy ; it is an asset.
Medium Blonds
Usually a medium blond has a medium complexion, hair between blond and light brown, and eyes that run the gamut from blue to brown the same categories as the light blonds, but not as vivid since they would detract from the neutral, natural coloring of the hair and skin.
Auburn
The person with true red or auburn may have a very fair skin or it may be as dark as a brunette's, with blue, gray, hazel or dark brown eyes.
Blues, greens and attractive browns are good.
Reds, pinks, deep purples are taboo. But whether white or yellow predominates in the skin tones, the auburn-haired has distinctive coloring that should be made the most of.
Similarly, a brunette of the "Irish type," white skin, blue or blue-gray eyes and dark hair is extremely attractive because of the striking contrast.
Medium Brunette
A medium brunette may have hair which is chestnut or brown, eyes blue to brown, and skin fair to olive. As this is the most predominant "type" in America, one needs to pay special attention to details that raise her out of the general run. She should use
very distinctive colors definitely not drab, adding a touch of exotic to her appearance.
Dark Brunette
Her skin may be very fair to olive, hair brown to black, and eyes
varying from blue-gray to black. She may wear true colors in most
instances, but if she has a sallow complexion, too yellow- greens or
orange will emphasize her sallow skin.
Gray-haired
Sometimes when natural pigmentation leaves the skin, it may develop a
clear almost cameo quality.
Soft and subtle colors and white emphasize
this ethereal look. If your hair is steel-gray or pure white, with few
exceptions, you may follow the dictates of your eyes and skin colors.
But if your hair is streaked with yellowish or brownish wisps, be
careful not to emphasize these.
Avoid yellow, brown and tan. And above all, one should dress according
to one's age. |
