You have to know how much yarn you need for your project. My patterns give the amount of yarns in grams. Most yarn comes with weight measurements on it.
Most common is 4 ply, for baby yarns 2 ply and there is 3 ply also.
Like toilet paper ( which is 2 ply or 2 layers of paper ),
the yarn is made by 2 turns of the thread, or 3 or 4. That's all to it.
Baby yarn; which is 2 ply, is half as small as 4 ply, so you need 2 times more stitches and rows, than 4 ply,
to get the same result.

Free crochet patterns for women ( charted patterns )

The crochet patterns are patterns in symbols ( charted patterns ) and in cms.
Free patterns for women, with crochet charts.
If you can read the crochet symbols, you can use them.

Free patterns for crochetsweaters in many different sizes, create your own fashion style

ABChave tried to organize the crochet patterns at the proper fashion size,
please pay attention when you pick a crochet pattern.

Most of the crochet patterns can easily be changed to another; larger or smaller Continental fashion size

ABCith a larger hook and thicker yarn, and adding more rows, you have one or more sizes up.

crochet joining flowers and granny squares
An important terminological difference is known as tension (UK) and gauge (U.S.).
Individual crocheters work yarn with a loose or a tight hold and, if unmeasured, these differences can lead to significant size changes in finished garments that have the same number of stitches.
In order to control for this inconsistency, printed crochet instructions include a standard for the number of stitches across a standard swatch of fabric.
An individual crocheter begins work by producing a test swatch and compensating for any discrepancy by changing to a smaller or larger hook. North Americans call this gauge, referring to the end result of these adjustments; British crocheters speak of tension, referring to the crafter's grip on the yarn while producing stitches.

Crochet patterns for square shaped

I have crocheted some squares, with crochethook 2 mm and used a delicate cotton yarn - the kind you use with the metal hooks.
The size of the flower, will depend on the thickness of the yarn you use to crochet your square with.
If you want to have a special size, and your square is not big enough, just increase the size of your hook and use thicker yarn. You can use these crochet patterns for almost any pattern on this page.
Depending on how fast you crochet, a flower will take about 10 - 20 min to create.
Please send me your finished work, digital photo, thank you.

The crochet flowers and squares on this page are crocheted with thin cotton yarn and hook size 2 mm.
Many of my crochet charts are made with Symblcro, software to design crochet charts in symbols.
There is no retail version yet, but when there is, I will buy it, I think it is great.

If your granny square of that particular pattern is 17 cms when finished
then that pattern is for size 36
further more, when 5 cms is for a size 34 and 6 cms will be a size 38, then;

How to dry your crochet work.

Do not toss your crochet piece into the dryer.
Your crochet work will shrink, if you simply dry them as any other garment.
Set your dryer on a low setting and then dry your garment for ten to fifteen minutes.
Then lay out flat or hang it on the clothesline, take care to avoid stretching.

If you have crocheted your garment with a specialty yarn, wash the garment by hand and lay it flat for drying.
You don not want to ruin weeks of work, by washing your garment in the washing machine or the heat of the dryer.
