MATERIALS: Caron Simply Soft 4-ply worsted weight yarn (100% acrylic), Article H/C9700 (6 oz. [100 gm], 300 yds each skein): 6 skeins of #9727 Black (A): 2 skeins of #9718 Red Violet (B): and 3 skeins of #9706 Meadow (C). Crochet hook size G-6 U.S. or size needed to obtain gauge. Yarn needle.

 

MEASUREMENTS: 45-1/2 x 60 in.

 

GAUGE: First 5 rnds of Motif = 3 in. in diameter at widest point. Motif = 8 in. in diameter at widest point.

 

STITCHES USED: Chain st (ch). Slip st (sl st). Single crochet (sc). Half double crochet (hdc). Double crochet (dc).

Long hdc: * Yo, insert hook in designated st 2 rnds below, yo, draw yarn through st and up to level of work, yo, draw yarn through 3 loops on hook *.

 

ABBREVIATIONS: rnd = round; rep = repeat; foll = following; blp(s) = back loop(s);
sl st = slip stitch; tog = together; st(s) = stitch(es); bet = between; beg = beginning

 

NOTE: Always start with ch 3 instead of first dc of rnd. End with 1 sl st in first sc or third (dc) ch at beg of rnd.

 

DIRECTIONS

Motif: (make 53): With A, ch 5 and close into a ring with 1 sl st in first ch.

Rnd 1 (right side): Ch 1, work 12 sc in ring.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, * sc in sc, ch 2, skip next sc *, rep from * to * around (6 ch-2 spaces).

Rnd 3: Ch 1, * sc in sc, ch 3, skip next ch-2 space *, rep from * to * around.

Rnd 4: Ch 1, * sc in sc, ch 3, skip next ch-3 loop *, rep from * to * around.

Rnd 5: Ch 1, * 3 sc in sc, 3 sc in ch-3 loop *, rep from * to * around (36 sc). Drop A to wrong side to be picked up later.

Flower:

Rnd 1: With right side facing, join B in any ch-2 space in Rnd 2, ch 1, (sc, 2 hdc, dc, 2 hdc, sc) in each ch-2 spce around (6 petals made).

Rnd 2: Working behind first rnd of Flower, sl st in corresponding ch-3 loop in Rnd 3, ch 1, (sc, 2 hdc, dc, 2 hdc, sc, ch 1) in each ch-3 loop around, sl st in first sc to join. Fasten off B.

First Leaf: With right side facing, join C in any ch-1 space in Rnd 2 of Flower, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in ch-1 space. Fasten off.

Second through Sixth Leaves: Work same as First Leaf in each ch-1 space in Rnd 2 of Flower.

Continue Motif:

Rnd 6: With right side facing, pick up A from wrong side of work, ch 1, * 3 sc in sc, sc in each of next 5 sc *, rep from * to * around (48 sc).

Rnd 7: Ch 1, * sc in sc, 3 sc in next sc, sc in each of next 6 sc *, ep from * to * around (60 sc).

Rnd 8: Ch 1, * sc in each of next 2 sc, working through double thickness, sc in ch-2 space of next corresponding Leaf and next sc, sc in each of next 7 sc *, rep from * to * around.

Rnd 9: Ch 1, * sc in each of next 2 sc, 3 sc in next sc, sc in each of next 7 sc *, rep from * to * around (72 sc).

Rnd 10: Ch 1, * sc in sc, ch 1, skip next sc *, rep from * to * around (36 ch-1 spaces). Fasten off A.

Rnd 11: With right side facing, join C in first ch-1 space, ch 1, 2 sc in each ch-1 space around (72 sc). Fasten off C.

Rnd 12: With right side facing, join A in blp of first sc, ch 1, * sc in blp of next 3 sc, working over sts in Rnd 11, work 3 Long hdc in next corresponding sc 2 rnds below (Rnd 10), skip next 2 sc, sc in blp of each of next 7 sc *, rep from * to * around. Fasten off.

Edging: With right side facing, join C in any corner hdc, * ch 3, skip next st, sl st in next st *, rep from * to * as evenly as possible around. Fasten off.
