1 First you knit your knitting swatch, if you want to knit in a fantasy pattern, knit your swatch in this stitch,
2 then determine your gauge, now you can choose a knitting pattern with the right gauge, this way it will always fit, 3 no need for special yarns or needles size, you decide which yarn you use and which gauge you use, so easy. With right side of knit facing, pick up and knit 6 stitches from right front neck holder, 11 stitches from right front neck edge, 1 stitches from right back neck edge, 21 stitches from back neck holder, 1 stitches from left back neck edge, , 11 stitches from left front neck edge and 6 stitches from left front neck holder. Total 57 stitches. 2. knit 2,0 cms (6 rows) in K1P1 ribbing. 3. Cast off loosely. BUTTON BAND: 1. Start with left front for girls/women, right front for boys/men. Using size 5 needles pick up and knit 72 stitches (approximately 6 stitches for each 7 rows along cardigan front) between bottom of hem and top of collar band. 2. knit in 1x1 ribbing for 5 rows. Cast off loosely. 3. Mark positions for 7 buttons, the first one 1,0 cms above the band bottom, the last one 1,0 cms below the band top. The rest should be evenly spaced between these two, approximately 6,0 cms apart. BUTTONHOLE BAND: 1. knit buttonhole band as for button band, knitting buttonholes at the marked positions. Check your knitting reference book for techniques. 2. Sew buttons at marked positions on the button band, being careful to align buttons with buttonholes. FINISHING: 1. Sew sleeve top to armhole, easing to fit. Sew side and sleeve seams. Sew any remaining seams. 2. Darn/weave/sew in all loose ends.
