1 First you knit your knitting swatch, if you want to knit in a fantasy pattern, knit your swatch in this stitch,
2 then determine your gauge, now you can choose a knitting pattern with the right gauge, this way it will always fit, 3 no need for special yarns or needles size, you decide which yarn you use and which gauge you use, so easy. Inc 2 stitches evenly across the row to 94 stitches total. 2. Change to size 3.5 needles and Stocking Stitch. knit even until piece measures 18,2 cms (62 rows), excluding hem. 3. Armhole shaping. Cast off 7 stitches at beginning of next 2 rows. Dec 1 st at each end of every alternate row for 8 rows until 72 stitches remaining. Continue until armhole measures 17,1 cms (58 rows), with 72 stitches remaining. 4. Shoulder shaping. Cast off 5 stitches at beginning of next 2 rows. Cast off 6 stitches at beginning of following 4 rows. AT THE SAME TIME, when armhole measures 17,6 cms (60 rows), start neck shaping. 5. Shape neck. Slip the center 34 stitches to a holder. Dec 1 st at neck edge every row twice. FRONT: Cardigan right side knitted first. 1. Cast on 45 stitches on size 2.5 needles. knit in K1P1 ribbing for 5,0 cms. Inc 1 stitches evenly across the row to 46 stitches total. 2. Change to size 3.5 needles and Stocking Stitch. knit even until piece measures 18,2 cms (62 rows), excluding hem. 3. Armhole. Dec for armhole at left end, as for back. Continue until armhole measures 1,8 cms (6 rows), with 36 stitches remaining. Continue armhole shaping until 10 rows knitted from beginning of armhole. AT THE SAME TIME, 4. Shape neck. Dec 1 st at neck edge (right end) of next row, then every 2nd row once, then every 3rd row 16 times, until 17 stitches remain. 5. knit even until armhole measures 17,1 cms (58 rows). 6. Shoulder shaping. Cast off as for back. 7. Left cardigan front. knit as for right side, reversing shapings. SHOULDER SEAMS: 1. Sew fronts to back along shoulder seams. ARMHOLE RIBBING: --- by hand on size 2.5 needles 1. With right side of knit facing, pick up and knit 124 stitches along armhole edge between side seams by picking up one st for every armhole cast-off st and one for every row. 2. Decrease from 124 to 99 by: P 13 P2tog *(P 2 P2tog)* 24 times P 13 3. knit in K1P1 ribbing for 0,5 cms (approx 2 rows). Cast off loosely. BUTTON BAND / COLLAR: -- knitted in two pieces. Alternatively, you can knit button band and buttonhole band together in one piece on circular needles. 1. Start with left front for girls/women, right front for boys/men. Using size 2.5 needles pick up and knit 160 stitches (approximately 9 stitches for each 10 rows along cardigan front) between bottom of hem and center of back of neck. 2. knit in 1x1 ribbing for 8 rows. Cast off loosely. 3. Mark positions for 5 buttons, the first one 1,0 cms above the band bottom, the last one where the V-neck shaping begins. The rest should be evenly spaced between these two, approximately 5,7 cms apart. BUTTONHOLE BAND: 1. knit buttonhole band as for button band, knitting buttonholes at the marked positions. Check your knitting reference book for techniques. 2. Sew buttons at marked positions on the button band, being careful to align buttons with buttonholes. FINISHING: 1. Sew side seams. Sew any remaining seams. 2. Darn/weave/sew in all loose ends. AMOUNT OF YARN REQUIRED TO MAKE GARMENT: --- THIS IS A ROUGH ESTIMATE ONLY. Measure a sample piece for a more accurate calculation.
