Tips for my basic knitting patterns

If you want to knit one of my stranded color knitting designs, check my Norwegian color chart pages,
or an intarsia knitting design, check my color chart pages, and select a nice design.
Then check the amount of stitches you need, to knit the design, for instance;
if your knit pattern gives 60 stitches for the front, ( and back ) your color pattern has to be between 40 - 50 stitches wide,
you must start with the color chart at least 5 stitches from each side of the front panel. Take care not to knit with too long floats.

BACK:
1. Cast on 71 stitches on size 3 needles. knit in K1P1 ribbing for 5,0 cms. Inc 2 stitches evenly across the row to 73 stitches
total.
2. Change to size 4 needles and Stocking Stitch. knit even until piece measures 19,2 cms (50 rows), excl. hem.
3. Mark this row at both ends for armhole. Continue until armhole measures 15,4 cms (40 rows),
4. Shape neck. knit both sides at the same time. knit 24 stitches. Slip the next 25 stitches to a holder.
Now attach another ball of yarn and continue across second half of stitches, and
knit remaining 24 stitches. Dec 1 st at neck edge every row twice, until 22 stitches remain.
5. knit even until armhole measures 16,9 cms (44 rows). Cast off 22 shoulder stitches loosely.

FRONT:
1-2 Follow steps 1 and 2 as for back.
3. Armhole. Mark this row at both ends for armhole. Continue until armhole measures 3,1 cms (8 rows).
4. Shape neck. knit both sides at the same time. knit 35 stitches. Cast off next 3 stitches. knit remaining 35 stitches. knit
24 rows (9,0 cms) even at center for keyhole opening. Next row: for bottom of neckline, slip the first 7 stitches at neck
edge to a holder. Dec 1 st at neck edge every row 6 times, until 22 stitches remain.
5. knit even until armhole measures 16,9 cms (44 rows). Cast off 22 shoulder stitches loosely.

SLEEVES:
1. Cast on 36 stitches on size 3 needles. knit in K1P1 ribbing for 4,0 cms. Inc 2 stitches evenly across the row to 38 stitches
total.
2. Change to size 4 needles and Stocking Stitch.
3. Inc 1 st at each end of every 4th row 7 times, then every 5th row 8 times to 68 stitches (68 rows total, excluding hem).
4. knit even until sleeve measures 27,0 cms (72 rows), excluding hem.
5. Cast off loosely.

SHOULDER SEAMS:
1. Sew fronts to back along shoulder seams.

SINGLE BAND COLLAR:
--- by hand on size 3 needles.
1. With right side of knit facing, pick up and knit 7 stitches from right front neck holder, 11 stitches from right front neck
edge, 3 stitches from right back neck edge, 25 stitches from back neck holder, 3 stitches from left back neck edge, 11 stitches from
left front neck edge, and 7 stitches from left front neck holder. Total 67 stitches.
2. knit 2,0 cms (8 rows) in K1P1 ribbing.
3. Cast off loosely.

BUTTON BAND:
1. Start with left front for girls/women, right front for boys/men. Using size 3 needles pick up and knit 26 stitches
(approximately 9 stitches for each 10 rows along keyhole edge) between bottom of keyhole and top of collar band.
2. knit in 1x1 ribbing for 7 rows. Cast off loosely.
3. Mark positions for 3 buttons, the first one 1,0 cms above the band bottom, the last one 1,0 cms below the band top.
The rest should be evenly spaced between these two, approximately 3,5 cms apart.
BUTTONHOLE BAND:
1. knit buttonhole band as for button band, knitting buttonholes at the marked positions.
2. Sew buttons at marked positions on the button band, being careful to align buttons with buttonholes.

FINISHING:
1. Sew sleeve top to armhole, easing to fit. Sew side and sleeve seams using invisible seam. Sew any remaining
seams.
2. Overlap and sew bottom of button bands to bottom of keyhole.
3. Darn/weave/sew in all loose ends.

26 rows (10,0 cms) even at center for keyhole opening. Next row: for bottom of neckline, slip the first 7 stitches at
neck edge to a holder. Dec 1 st at neck edge every row 6 times, until 24 stitches remain.
5. knit even until armhole measures 18,5 cms (48 rows). Cast off 24 shoulder stitches loosely.

SLEEVES:
