Cable patterns tend to "pull in," giving more stitches per width than stockinette stitch, garter or seed stitch.

I have created knitting patterns with gauges for cable sweaters and cable cardigans.
I think drop shoulders are the best choice to knit a beautiful cable sweater or cardigan.

BACK:
1. Cast on 54 stitches on size 3 needles. Work in K1P1 ribbing for 4,0 cms.
2. Change to size 4 needles and knitting pattern. Work even until piece measures 10,3 cms (32 rows), excluding hem.
3. Mark this row at both ends for armhole. Continue until armhole measures 9,7 cms (30 rows),
4. Shape neck. Work both sides at the same time. Work 18 stitches. Slip the next 18 stitches to a holder.
Now attach another ball of yarn and continue across second half of stitches, and
work remaining 18 stitches. Dec 1 st at neck edge every row twice, until 16 stitches remain.
5. Work even until armhole measures 11,0 cms (34 rows). Cast off 16 shoulder stitches loosely.

FRONT:
1-2 Follow steps 1 and 2 as for back.
3. Armhole. Mark this row at both ends for armhole. Continue until armhole measures 6,5 cms (20 rows).
4. Shape neck. Work both sides at the same time. Work 21 stitches. Slip the next 12 stitches to a holder.
Now attach another ball of yarn and continue across second half of stitches, and
work remaining 21 stitches. Dec 1 st at neck edge every row 5 times, until 16 stitches remain.
5. Work even until armhole measures 11,0 cms (34 rows). Cast off 16 shoulder stitches loosely.

SLEEVES:
1. Cast on 27 stitches on size 3 needles. Work in K1P1 ribbing for 3,0 cms. Inc 2 stitches evenly across the row to 29 stitches total.
2. Change to size 4 needles and knitting pattern.
3. Inc 1 st at each end of every 4th row 6 times, then every 5th row twice to 45 stitches (34 rows total, excluding hem).
4. Work even until sleeve measures 12,0 cms (38 rows), excluding hem.
5. Cast off loosely.

LEFT SHOULDER SEAM:
1. Sew front to back along left shoulder seam.

ROUND (CREW) FRONT NECK SINGLE BAND COLLAR:
--- by hand on size 3 needles.
1. With right side of work facing, pick up and work 3 stitches from right back neck edge, 18 stitches from back neck holder, 3 stitches from left back neck edge, 10 stitches from left front neck edge, 12 stitches from front neck holder and 10 stitches from right
front neck edge. Total 56 stitches.
2. Work 2,0 cms (8 rows) in K1P1 ribbing.
3. Cast off loosely.

FINISHING: Sew sleeve top to armhole, sew any remaining seams. Darn/weave/sew in all loose ends.
