There may be sections where there are two shapings to knit at the same time (such as necklines or waist shaping). BACK: 1. Cast on 65 sts on size 3 needles. knit in K1P1 ribbing for 4,0 cms. Inc 6 sts evenly across the row to 71 sts total. 2. Change to size 4 needles and Stocking Stitch. knit even until piece measures 12,7 cms (38 rows), excluding hem. 3. Armhole shaping. Cast off 6 sts at beginning of next 2 rows. Dec 1 st at each end of every alternate row for 10 rows until 49 sts remaining. Continue until armhole measures 11,3 cms (34 rows), with 49 sts remaining. 4. Shape neck. knit both sides at the same time. knit 13 sts. With a second ball of yarn, cast off the next 23 sts. knit remaining 13 sts. Dec 1 st at neck edge every row twice, until 11 sts remain. 5. knit even until armhole measures 12,0 cms (36 rows). 6. Shoulder shaping. Cast off remaining sts at armhole edge of next row. FRONT: Cardigan right side knitted first. 1. Cast on 33 sts on size 3 needles. knit in K1P1 ribbing for 4,0 cms. Inc 3 sts evenly across the row to 36 sts total. 2. Change to size 4 needles and Stocking Stitch. knit even until piece measures 12,7 cms (38 rows), excluding hem. 3. Armhole. Dec for armhole at left end, as for back. Continue until armhole measures 1,3 cms (4 rows), with 28 sts remaining. Continue armhole shaping until 12 rows knitted from beginning of armhole. AT THE SAME TIME, 4. Shape neck. Dec 1 st at neck edge (right end) of next row, then every 2nd row 9 times, then every 3rd row 4 times, until 11 sts remain. 5. knit even until armhole measures 12,0 cms (36 rows). 6. Shoulder shaping. Cast off as for back. 7. Left cardigan front. knit as for right side, reversing shapings. SHOULDER SEAMS: 1. Sew fronts to back along shoulder seams. ARMHOLE RIBBING: --- by hand on size 3 needles 1. With right side of knit facing, pick up and knit 78 sts along armhole edge between side seams by picking up one st for every armhole cast-off st and one for every row. 2. Decrease from 78 to 66 by: P 5 P2tog *(P 4 P2tog)* 11 times P 5 3. knit in K1P1 ribbing for 0,4 cms (approx 2 rows). Cast off loosely. FINISHING: 1. Sew side seams. Sew any remaining seams. 2. Finish open edges of cardigan fronts; some suggestions are: crochet edging, I-cord, zipper. 3. Finish neckline edges. 4. Darn/weave/sew in all loose ends.
